Former Oaklands Wolves rugby academy player, Alfie Griffin, has taken a major step in his sporting journey after making his professional debut for Bath Rugby FC last weekend.
The 21-year-old, who joined Oaklands College in 2020 to study a Sports Science BTEC, balanced his academic studies with playing for the Oaklands Wolves rugby academy. After completing his course, Griffin went on to study at Bath University, where he continued his rugby development as part of the university squad.
On Saturday, Griffin stepped onto the pitch at The Recreation Ground (The Rec) in front of 14,500 fans as Bath faced Exeter Chiefs. Despite Bath falling to a 14–23 defeat, the occasion marked a memorable milestone for Griffin as he officially began his professional rugby career.
Speaking after the match, Alfie’s mother, Lisa Griffin, reflected on the family’s pride:
“One of the proudest moments was watching the ceremony at the end of the game, when Alfie received his Rugby Cap from Bath Rugby FC.”
She also paid tribute to Oaklands College for the role in her son’s progression:
“We are so grateful for all the support and development he received during his time at Oaklands.”
Griffin’s journey from the Oaklands Wolves academy to the professional stage with Bath Rugby serves as an inspiring example for current and future student-athletes at Oaklands College.
