Entry requirements

As well as the basic college requirements to start studying A levels, you must have gained at least grade BB in GCSE Science or Physics and grade B in Maths. It is strongly recommended that you hold grade A in additional Science. You must have a grade D or above in AS Physics to progress onto A2 Physics.

Assessment is in 3 units at A2 Level Assessment is by examination only and is designated to test: Knowledge and understanding of physics facts, concepts and principles Handling, applying and evaluation information data Design, planning, performance and evaluation of simple experiments.

About the course

The measurement of physical quantities, Newton's laws of motion, collisions, circular motion, gravitational fields, simple harmonic oscillations, solids, liquids and gases, temperature, thermal properties of materials, electric fields, magnetic fields, electromagnetism, capacitors, the nuclear atom, fundamental particles, radioactivity, nuclear fusion and fission, X-rays, diagnostic methods in medicine, ultrasound, strudture of the universe, evolution of the universe.

Career options

Physics is an essential preparation for entry into Higher Education or careers in the sciences, engineering, medicine and electronics. It is also very useful for many other subjects and careers.

A Levels can lead you onto many different career paths, including university to further develop your skills in your chosen subject(s).
