Entry requirements

You will need to have been 19 years of age prior to the start of the current academic year. You will also require a computer with basic IT skills, access to the internet and a printer. A scanner is desirable but not necessary as modern phones can be used as scanner with a supported app.

Teaching staff

You will be supported by an experienced specialist teacher allocated when your course starts, who is experienced in teaching the Functional Skills specification and continues to attend training sessions that allow them to keep up to date with current changes and modes of assessment within examination boards.

Assessment

The course runs for 12 weeks and involves three exams: Reading, Writing, and Speaking & Listening. The Reading and Writing exams can be taken together at the end of your course, meaning you will only need to attend the College once for both. The Speaking and Listening exam will conducted online over Teams. You will be given a date for this exam upon enrolment.

About the course

This qualification equip learners with the practical skills needed in everyday life, education, and the workplace. They are widely recognised by employers, and many universities accept them as part of their entry requirements. If you have never obtained a GCSE pass at grades A'C / 4'9 in English and you are British or have settlement status, this course will be fully funded by the UK Government. Distance Learning means you only need to come into College to sit your final exam. To undertake this online course, you will need access to a computer and the internet. It is essential that you are confident using the internet and email and also have access to a printer and scanner.
