Assessment

Assessment includes two written exams and an employer-set project during Year 1, followed by a practical occupational specialism project in Year 2. The year 1 core element is graded A* to E. The year 2 occupational specialism is graded Distinction, Merit or Pass. The final T Level grade combines both, with possible outcomes including Distinction*, Distinction, Merit or Pass. To receive the full qualification, you must also complete the industry placement and meet minimum standards in English and Maths.

About the course

T Levels are a new, nationally recognised qualification for 16'19-year-olds. Equivalent to 3 A Levels, they combine in-depth classroom learning with a substantial industry placement of at least 45 days (315 hours). At Oaklands College, the T Level in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing 'Electrical and Electronic Pathway 'is designed in collaboration with leading employers to ensure you gain the skills, knowledge and hands-on experience required by industry today. This pathway is ideal for students interested in areas such as: Electrical and Electronic Design Engineering Systems Development Control Systems Circuit Design and Analysis Embedded Electronics Sustainable Technologies

Career options

On successful completion of the course, students can progress to university, apply for a higher apprenticeship, or enter employment in the engineering sector. This T Level carries up to 168 UCAS points which is equivalent to three A Levels at A*. Students can also choose to study further qualifications such as an HNC, HND or BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

There are so many different areas of engineering to work in; however, most engineers choose to specialise in just one, such as chemical, automotive or robotics.  Careers in engineering are constantly evolving and new processes and technologies are being developed all the time.  This allows engineers to stay on the ball and react to new problems and challenges in their chosen career.

Engineering careers are constantly varied in terms of their job responsibilities, but also in their working locations.  As an engineer you could be working in an office, in a laboratory, on an oil rig, in a factory or on a race track.

Each engineering discipline requires professionals with very specific skill-sets.  However each and every area of this sector is as complex as the next.  Consequently, all engineers need to have strong mathematical skills, logic and the ability to rise to intellectual and practical challenges.

 

Course Content - What will I learn?

The T Level in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing with an Electrical and Electronic Pathway includes two key components: the Year 1 Engineering Core and an Year 2 Occupational Specialism. In Year 1, learners study the core engineering knowledge which includes essential science and mathematics for engineering, mechanical and electrical principles, mechatronics, materials and their properties, control systems, quality management, and health and safety. The professional context of engineering is also covered including digital systems, business awareness, and project management. Students will complete an Employer-Set Project where they demonstrate their knowledge through planning, research, technical design, and presentation. In Year 2, learners specialise in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. They will develop the ability to design and test electronic systems, interpret technical specifications, evaluate and improve design solutions, troubleshoot circuit designs, and produce detailed technical documentation and reports.
