SECTOR SPECIFIC FUNDED SKILLS TRAINING IN HERTFORDSHIRE

Skills Bootcamps

flexible fast track training

Skills Bootcamps offer funded flexible fast track training covering sector specific knowledge and skills as part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee.

These courses will allow you to retrain or upskill whatever your starting point and launch your career into a new role, opportunity, or self-employed contract.

With a range of delivery models including face to face and online, our programmes last a maximum of 12 weeks. Many of our courses also include work experience so you can put the theory into practice at an employer’s location.

Please be aware these opportunities are only available for residents of Hertfordshire. 

Self-referred learners

Self-referred learners will have the opportunity of an interview on completion of the course, and to support your next steps, we are working with employers who have employment opportunities for our graduates.

Our Skills Bootcamp team will be on hand to support you and provide information and guidance to reach your goals.

Looking to work within industries such as Construction, Highways and Rail?

This 13-day programme includes the following qualifications: CSCS card, Personal Track Safety, Worksite Safety Induction, Site Access Traffic Marshall, and knowledge on Groundworks Impacting, Breaking and Drainage. With a blended approach of theory and practical experience, you will gain a range of qualifications required to work within groundworks.

Ideal for individuals looking to gain employment within this sector with employment opportunities on completion of the course. Person Protective Equipment (PPE) also included as part of the course.

 

Start Date: Wednesday 28th January
End Date: Wednesday 25th March

  • Days/Times: 1 set day per week 10am – 1pm
  • Location: Online
  • Duration: 9 weeks term time only
  • Aimed at: Self-Employed or Employers looking to upskill their current employees

This course equips learners with the knowledge and skills in understanding digital marketing includes marketing fundamentals, digital marketing, data management, communication and content, skills and tools including AI, and a project.

The course is ideal for self-employed individuals looking to secure new opportunities, clients, and contract through the development of a clear business plan as part of the Skills Bootcamp. It is also ideal for employers to enrol their staff members to support their development within the company.

Looking to work as a General Operative, Plant Marshall, or Site Marshall within Construction?

This 13-day programme includes the following qualifications: CSCS card, Emergency First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Safety, Health and Safety in Construction Environment, Small Tools, Plant and Vehicle Marshall, and COSHH Awareness. With a blended approach of theory and practical experience, you will gain a range of qualifications required to work within a range of employment pathways in construction.

Ideal for individuals looking to gain employment within this sector with employment opportunities on completion of the course. Person Protective Equipment (PPE) also included as part of the course.

  • Aimed at: Employers looking to upskill their current employees

This fully online course will be delivered 1 day per week over 8 weeks and will provide individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to lead and manage teams with confidence, and the graduates will achieve the CMI Level 3 Award in Principles of Leadership and Management.

The course will include leadership and management fundamentals, business regulations, developing stakeholder relationships, self-development, setting personal objectives, completing a gap analysis, and how policies and processes impact the business environment.

Designed for practising or aspiring managers in roles such as Team Leader, Supervisor, Project Officer, Shift Manager and Foreperson.

  • Aimed at: Employers looking to upskill their current employees

This fully online course will be delivered over 7 weeks and will provide individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to lead and manage teams with confidence, and the graduates will achieve the CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership.

The course will include managing and developing relationships, principles of leadership practice, foundations for excellence, delivering results, managing self, managing finance, and principles of management and leadership in an organisational context.

Designed for practising or aspiring managers in roles such as Operations Manager, Divisional Manager, Departmental Manager, Regional Manager or Specialist Manager.

Additional Eligibility:
 
Grade C/4 or above, Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths
Good level of English speaking and understanding
To have at least 1 direct report

Start Date: Monday 9th February
End Date: Friday 20th March

  • Days/Times: Monday’s 9am – 2:45pm (Theory) and additional pre-arranged days/times for work experience
  • Location: Welwyn Garden City (Theory), and additional local Hertfordshire sites for work experience
  • Duration: 6 weeks

This course allows individuals to gain the knowledge and skills to work within the health and social care sector with a guaranteed interview for all graduates with employers who have employment opportunities within Hertfordshire.  

You will receive a blended approach of theory led sessions and work experience within an established placement within Hertfordshire to allow you to put the theory and learning into practice.

The course includes topics including the Care Certificate, customer service, food preparation & nutrition, manual handling, dignity and respect, maintaining working relationships, emotional resilience, and condition specific awareness around dementia, autism, and mental health.

Additional Eligibility:
Grade C/4 or above, Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths
Good level of English speaking and understanding
Be able to pass a DBS check

Start Date: Wednesday 4th February
End Date: Wednesday 25th March

  • Days/Times: Wednesday’s 1pm – 5pm
  • Location: Online via teams
  • Duration: 8 weeks

This 8-week course prepares individuals to gain knowledge and skills to become a data engineer within the digital industry. Our fully online course offers virtual sessions delivered by our experienced tutor and on completion of the course, all graduates will have a guaranteed interview with our employer within Hertfordshire with employment opportunities.

The course includes topics such as python programming fundamentals, git and version control, agile/project workflows, testing concepts, cloud and azure fundamentals, cyber security essentials, and working with stakeholders.

Additional Eligibility:

  • Grade C/4 or above, Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident using computers, managing files and navigating online learning platforms

Supporting Employers

You can utilise the funded Skills Bootcamps to support your recruitment needs or challenges at no cost, by working in partnership with Oaklands on your requirements and creating a bespoke curriculum relevant to your company and the wider industry. On completion of the programme, you can interview our graduates and offer employment if applicable.

You can also upskill your current staff members with the right knowledge and skills with subsidised* training to support their continued development for a new role/promotion, or additional responsibilities within their current role.
