Taking Music Beyond the Classroom at Jersey Farm Community Centre

Four talented Oaklands College Music students recently visited Jersey Farm Community Centre to deliver an engaging percussion session for local residents, supported by Music lecturer Phil.

The session provided residents with the opportunity to explore a variety of percussion instruments, learn different rhythms and take part in interactive musical activities. Throughout the afternoon, the students demonstrated excellent professionalism, preparation and confidence, creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with residents thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to learn, play and engage with live music. The session also enabled our students to put their skills into practice in a real-world setting, developing their communication, leadership and performance abilities while supporting the local community.

The visit forms part of our growing partnership with Jersey Farm Community Centre and is a fantastic example of Oaklands College taking its curriculum into the community. By sharing their talents and knowledge beyond the classroom, our students are helping to create meaningful connections and enriching experiences for local residents.

A huge thank you to our students and Phil for representing Oaklands College so brilliantly. We look forward to building on this successful partnership and creating even more opportunities for students to showcase their talents while making a positive impact in the community.
