Oaklands Wolves Men delivered a historic performance to secure promotion to NBL Division 1, becoming both Playoff Winners and Pool Winners following a dominant 122–76 victory over Gloucester City Basketball. The emphatic win capped off a remarkable season and confirmed Oaklands’ place among the elite programmes in the country.
Leading from the front was Kane Daley, whose standout performance earned him MVP honours. Daley was unstoppable throughout the playoffs, finishing the final with an incredible 43 points. His quality was also on full display earlier in the National Final, where he scored 29 points on an outstanding 9 from 12 shooting performance in under 17 minutes of first-half action, setting the tone for Oaklands’ title charge.
Head Coach Liam Jefferson praised both the performance and the character shown by the group throughout the season.
“We’ve had a hell of a season and I knew that if we competed and performed at our potential, then we were going to be a handful for them. There was a moment around half-time when I spoke with my assistant coaches and said this is the best we’ve played all year. I’m so proud of the guys.”
The final also saw an impressive contribution from Academy player Gavin Mitchell, who produced an excellent display and further underlined his potential. A current Oaklands student, Mitchell’s performance highlighted the strength of the Wolves pathway and marked him as one to watch for the future.
This historic promotion represents a major milestone for Oaklands Wolves Basketball and stands as a testament to the commitment, talent and hard work of the players, coaches and support staff throughout a truly outstanding season.
