We are proud to celebrate former football academy student Gus Scott-Morriss, who recently returned to campus to reconnect with former coaches, teammates and staff ahead of a huge moment in his career.
Gus, now a key player for Southend United, spent time catching up with familiar faces and reflecting on his journey from Oaklands Wolves to the professional game. His visit provided a brilliant opportunity for current students to hear first-hand about his progression and the commitment required to succeed at the highest level.
Since joining Southend United in the summer of 2022, Gus has made a significant impact at Roots Hall. After a strong first season, he has continued to develop into one of the National League’s most influential players. This season, he sits as the club’s top goalscorer with 15 goals, alongside four assists, an outstanding return for a right-back.
His performances follow an exceptional 2022/23 campaign, where he scored 17 goals and was awarded both the Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season.
Gus’s journey has been one of steady progression. After joining Hemel Hempstead Town in 2021 and making over 40 appearances, he earned his move to Southend United, where he has since become a standout performer.
Attention now turns to Wembley Stadium this Sunday, where Gus and Southend United will face Wealdstone in the Isuzu FA Trophy Final. Playing under the iconic arch, the Blues have the opportunity to secure their first domestic cup, in what promises to be a special occasion for the club.
Everyone at Oaklands College wishes Gus the very best for Sunday’s final. His journey continues to inspire the next generation of Oaklands Wolves athletes, demonstrating what can be achieved through hard work, resilience and dedication.
