Oaklands Wolves are delighted to announce the signing of Brazilian international point guard Maria Albiero for the upcoming Super League Basketball (SLB) season, marking an exciting return to the club after her previous spell with the Wolves during the 2024/25 campaign.
Albiero returns to Hertfordshire bringing international pedigree, leadership and playmaking excellence to the Wolves roster. The Brazilian national team guard has established herself as one of South America's most reliable floor generals, combining high-level international experience with a proven ability to impact games on both ends of the floor.
During her previous stint with Oaklands Wolves in the 2024/25 season, Albiero showcased her ability to control the tempo of games and create opportunities for teammates. Across SLB action, she averaged 6.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game, underlining her value as one of the league's premier facilitators.
She has represented Brazil at major international competitions, including the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Pre-Qualifying Tournament and the South American Championships.
Head Coach Lee Ryan welcomed the return of the Brazilian guard:
"We're thrilled to bring Maria back to Oaklands. She understands our culture, our expectations and the way we want to play. Maria is a high-level competitor who brings leadership, composure and experience, while also giving us a genuine playmaker capable of elevating the players around her. Her professionalism and winning mentality make her a fantastic addition to our programme."
Albiero's return provides the Wolves with a familiar face and a player who already understands the demands of competing in the SLB. Her ability to organise an offence, defend aggressively and lead from the point guard position will be a major asset as Oaklands look to build on recent progress and compete at the highest level.
Speaking about her return, Albiero said:
"I'm excited to be back with the Wolves. I have unfinished business from my previous time in St Albans and I'm looking forward to rejoining the club, reconnecting with the fans and helping the team achieve its goals this season. Oaklands is a special place, I resonate with Coach’s vision and philosophy very strongly and I can't wait to return and get started."
Everyone at Oaklands Wolves would like to welcome Maria back to the Pack and wishes her every success for the season ahead.
