Karate Athletes Win Five Medals at British Karate International Championships

Oaklands College Karate Athletes Win Five Medals at British Karate International Championships

Oaklands College athletes enjoyed an outstanding weekend at the British Karate International Championships, securing five medals across the U17 and U21 categories and showcasing the strength of the College's karate programme on the national stage.

The standout performance came in the U17 +76kg division, where Oaklands athletes dominated the podium. Sameer Hasib claimed the gold medal, with teammate Troy Borges taking silver. Jake Williams, who studies within the Oaklands Football Academy, secured bronze, resulting in a remarkable Oaklands one-two-three finish in the category. During the semi-finals, Sameer faced Jake in an all-Oaklands contest before both athletes ultimately secured podium places.

There was further success for Oaklands College in the U17 competition as Alfie Hanson earned a silver medal in the -55kg division following a series of impressive performances.

The medal success continued in the U21 categories, with Glyn Dawson winning bronze in the -84kg division and Ameer Hasib adding another bronze medal in the -67kg division.

The results gave Oaklands College a total of five medals at the British Karate International Championships, comprising one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

These achievements highlight the dedication, talent and hard work of Oaklands athletes, who competed against some of the best young karate competitors in the country. The success also underlines the quality of the sport and high-performance pathways available at Oaklands College, where students are supported to excel both academically and athletically.
