About the course

This workshop is designed for learners with previous art experience who are looking to build confidence, refine their skills, and further develop their personal artistic style. Working primarily with acrylic paints, you will gain a deeper understanding of the fundamental elements of art, including line, tone, form, colour, composition, and visual relationships. Through a combination of practical exercises and creative exploration, you will revisit key artistic concepts such as edges, spaces, light, shadow, and observational techniques, while making effective use of sketchbooks to record ideas, research, and artistic development. The course encourages you to identify and explore subjects that inspire you, helping you create more personal and meaningful artwork. Activities may include life drawing, expressive mark-making, response to stimuli, and the use of expressive colour, all rooted in direct observation. By the end of the workshop, you will have strengthened your technical abilities, expanded your creative approach, and developed greater confidence in expressing your individual artistic vision. Learners will need to provide their own basic drawing and painting materials, including a sketchbook or workbook (A3 size or larger). A detailed materials list will be provided during the first session and additional items may be suggested throughout the course to support individual projects and artistic development.
