About the course

This five-session course, running on alternate Saturdays (3 October, 17 October, 31 October, 14 November and 28 November), is designed to support and inspire improver and experienced potters in developing their skills and producing ceramics to a high standard. The 5-hour sessions allow you to fully immerse yourself in the creative process, providing uninterrupted time to develop techniques, complete more ambitious projects and make meaningful progress between sessions. Working at your own pace in a friendly, relaxed and supportive studio environment, you will have the opportunity to refine existing techniques, explore new approaches and develop your own creative projects with guidance from an experienced tutor. As participants will have varying levels of experience, tuition can include clay preparation techniques such as wedging and kneading, hand-building methods including slab building and coiling as well as wheel-throwing skills such as centring, cylinder making and turning. The course also provides opportunities to further develop decorative techniques, including the use of slips, surface decoration and glazing. You will have access to clay (buff and terracotta) and a selection of underglazes, glazes and slips. Please refer to the Course Requirements section for further information.
