Clare Hood- Head of Business
I have worked at Oaklands for ten years, previously as a lecturer but for the past four years have been working as a Head of Department. Prior to my time at Oaklands I achieved a BA (hons) in Applied Education Studies. I am particularly committed to ensuring young people from various backgrounds are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential so that they can move on to their chosen destinations. I am well supported by a fantastic team in Business who share this aim and provide exceptional support to the students in our department that enable them to take successful next steps.

Level 2 Courses From September in Borehamwood

We have a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business which can be completed at our brand new Borehamwood Campus!

How our business students benefit?

  • Attend trips where you can learn more about the sector you’re interested in
  • Pick up tips from professionals with in depth business knowledge such as Katia Torres, CEO of Mexgrocer or Steve Jack, CEO of GemCable.
  • Additional activities to help you gain confidence and acquire new skills such as participation in the annual Innovation Award challenge

In recent years, Oaklands Business students have had the opportunity to test their entrepreneurial skills as part of the annual Dragon’s Apprentice competition. The competition, open to local schools and colleges, gives teams £100 seed money with the challenge of turning it into £1000 for a nominated charity. Local businesses provide coaching and mentoring.

All of our full time programmes include opportunities to support and enhance your learning so that you can achieve your goals and ambitions. Students enrol on a Study Programme which individualises their education whilst enhancing their employability skills. A Study programme is made up of four key elements which includes a main vocational qualification, the development of English and maths through the study of GCSEs or Functional Skills, Work-related learning through work experience and Personal Development Reviews.
