Our Media Department at the Welwyn Garden City Campus boasts state-of-the-art media suites and access to industry standard equipment, which will help you hone your skills as a media professional and produce top quality work.

You’ll also have access to the latest hardware and software which is being used by current media professionals right now, so you’ll be one step ahead when it comes to impressing potential employers.

We offer courses starting at Level 2 all the way up to a Foundation Degree, in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire.

All of our full time programmes include opportunities to support and enhance your learning so that you can achieve your goals and ambitions. Students enrol on a Study Programme which individualises their education whilst enhancing their employability skills. A Study programme is made up of four key elements which includes a main vocational qualification, the development of English and maths through the study of GCSE’s or Functional Skills, Work-related learning through work experience and Personal Development Reviews.

The Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing & Production Arts has been designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to further study and training in a range of music performance and production disciplines.

Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology (UAL)

The Level 2 Diploma in Media Production and Technology (accredited by the University of the Arts London) provides opportunities for individuals intrigued and inspired by media to explore, develop and test their creativity within a structure that will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career demands and opportunities within the sector. It draws upon established approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that are successfully proven to appeal to and engage students seeking practical study rather than a more academic study route. It is an enjoyable course that will enable students to learn a wide range of production techniques that will prepare them for the level 3 course and/or employment within the creative media industry.

Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology (UAL)

UAL qualifications are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level study or employment in the media sector. The one year diploma provides an opportunity for those with an interest in media to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study. You will learn about a range of media industries, which will include the study of film, television and print. You will learn to research, plan and produce media products as part of a creative team using digital software. You will improve your ability to work independently and as part of a team when you learn production skills whilst increasing your ability to communicate and to use IT and numerical skills.

Foundation Degrees

This is a nationally-recognised degree qualification in its own right, and can also lead onto the final year of an Honours Degree programme. At Oaklands College we deliver foundation degrees validated by University of Hertfordshire.

While studying towards a foundation degree you will have access to a wide range of services and facilities at Oaklands College as well as having access to facilities at the University of Hertfordshire, including:

This two-year, full-time programme is designed to give students the opportunity to develop their creative and practical skills in media production to a very high level.
