English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Learn to speak English at Oaklands and develop your language skills for the future. Our English Language courses are for people whose first language is not English and who wish to develop their language skills for everyday life, for work or in order to progress into education or further study.

Studying ESOL at Oaklands College

We offer a range of full-time and part-time English Language courses. To apply for a course you must complete an application form and an English test, so that we know you have a suitable level of English for your courses. If you are applying for an academic course we must also see the highest qualification you have from your own country, translated into English.

ESOL Adults

Our English for Speakers of Other Languages courses are for: people who live and work in the UK and need to improve their English to communicate at home, in the community, at school, at work. Courses are available from Entry 1 to Level 2. Fee concessions are available for people who are unemployed and on a recognised benefit. Please talk to our student advisors about this.

A typical course will include:

  • ESOL Skills for Life Speaking and Listening
  • ESOL Skills for Life Reading and Writing

ESOL 16-18 Programme

Our 16-18 programme prepares students for ESOL Skills for Life Speaking and Listening and Reading and Writing, Functional Skills Maths and ICT, and Vocational tasters e.g. Hospitality, Photography or Construction.

    CITIZENSHIP - If you are studying to obtain Citizenship, you must take the exam at a registered centre. Please look at the Home Office website for a list of centres. Oaklands is not a registered centre. However, we can help you to improve your English to pass your exam.
