Music Courses in Hertfordshire

The Music department at Oaklands strives to create a platform to allow you to pursue your talent and passion.

We are committed to enabling you to further your skills in writing, recording and performing music whilst underpinning this practice with contextual study.

You will be offered a valuable insight into the music industry from our experienced teaching staff and visiting tutors. Facilities include recording studios, rehearsal rooms, digital music suites, computer music suites and performance spaces.

You will have numerous opportunities to gain real experience in music making and to perform at various events. There is a vibrant and creative atmosphere within the Music department here at Oaklands which will allow you and your music to realise the full potential of your ideas.

All of our full time programmes include opportunities to support and enhance your learning so that you can achieve your goals and ambitions. Students enrol on a Study Programme which individualises their education whilst enhancing their employability skills. A Study programme is made up of four key elements which includes a main vocational qualification, the development of English and maths through the study of GCSE’s or Functional Skills, Work-related learning through work experience and Personal Development Reviews.

Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing & Production Arts (UAL)

The Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing & Production Arts has been designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to further study and training in a range of music performance and production disciplines.

Level 3 Subsidiary/Extended Diploma in Music Practice

This is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as developing your practical music making skills, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the Music Industry as a whole. Students take part in regular performances and record using the latest industry standard equipment including Apple Macs running Logic Pro and Pro Tools software.

Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production

The course is full time and lasts for one year. It provides a basic introduction to the study of music, including the music industry, performance, music theory knowledge and music production using technology.

Level 3 Subsidiary/Extended Diploma in Music Technology

This is a two year practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about music technology you will develop your knowledge of the music industry as a whole. Students gain experience using the latest industry standard equipment including Apple Macs running Logic Pro and Pro Tools software as well as learning how to use the College's dedicated recording studio.
