Last week, Oaklands College had the pleasure of attending Marlborough School’s ‘Welcome to the Real World Day’, an event designed to give Year 10 students a practical insight into life beyond school. Over the course of the day, the Oaklands team delivered eight interactive sessions to 240 students. Each session began with an introduction to Oaklands College, giving students an overview of the courses available and a glimpse of college life. This was followed by a hands-on creative session led by the AFD team, where students were challenged to design and create outfits for a gala ball using a variety of fabrics and mannequins.
The sessions gave students a clear insight into the courses and opportunities available at Oaklands College, while also providing a practical experience of what learning at Oaklands is like. The students’ active participation made the day both engaging and rewarding. A special thank you to Sarah from the Marketing team and Anya from AFD, who delivered such engaging sessions and played a key role in making the day a success.
We’re proud to continue working closely with schools such as Marlborough, supporting initiatives that help young people feel informed, inspired, and excited about their future pathways.
Reflecting on the partnership, Nikki Golds, Assistant Headteacher at Marlborough School, shared:
"Oaklands College are a valued and trusted partner who are always willing to support our school events. We regularly work with them across a range of activities, from classroom careers sessions to parent information evenings, and they always bring energy, insight, and a genuine commitment to our students. Their Year 11 Explorer Event is a real highlight, offering our students a fantastic opportunity to experience college life and explore different course options first-hand."
