This term, students across St Albans and Welwyn Garden City had the chance to learn from professional basketball player Amy West of the Oaklands Wolves Super League team. As part of a programme connecting schools with local sport, Amy delivered high-energy coaching sessions designed to inspire and engage young people.
One of the schools visited was Roundwood Park School in Harpenden, where students took part in skill development stations focusing on passing, dribbling, and shooting, as well as mini-games to encourage teamwork and keep everyone active. The visit also included a Q&A and photo opportunity with Amy, giving students the chance to meet a professional athlete and hear about her journey.
Amy, a proud New Zealand athlete, has been visiting schools in the local area, delivering PE lessons, after-school clubs, and development sessions to encourage participation in basketball and promote confidence, teamwork, and community involvement.
Through these initiatives, Oaklands Wolves aim to inspire the next generation of players and fans while providing students with positive pathways into sport and healthy, active lifestyles. Roundwood Park School was thrilled to be part of this programme, showcasing the impact professional athletes can have in motivating young people.
