We no longer post certificates by default.
If you cannot collect your certificate and do not have a nominated person, please email exams@oaklands.ac.uk to discuss postal options. Postage fees may apply.
Important Information
Certificates are valuable documents and should be kept safe.
If your certificate is lost or damaged, Oaklands College cannot provide a replacement. You will need to contact the relevant awarding body directly, and fees may apply.
Applying for Exam Special Consideration
If you experience illness, injury or other unforeseen circumstances that may affect your performance during an exam or assessment, you may be eligible to apply for special consideration.
What is Special Consideration?
Special Consideration is an adjustment made by awarding bodies to ensure that candidates who have been disadvantaged by temporary issues receive fair treatment. It does not change the assessment requirements but may result in a small adjustment to your final mark.
Special Consideration can only be awarded where a candidate:
· Has been fully prepared for assessments
· Has covered the entire course
· Cannot fully demonstrate their subject knowledge and understanding due to circumstances beyond their control at the time of the assessment(s)
Special Consideration cannot be applied for if the candidate was not able to develop their subject knowledge and understanding due to:
· Absence during the course
· Joining the course late
· Teaching and learning being disrupted for any reason
Eligibility
You may apply if:
· Temporary illness at the time of assessment
· A recent bereavement in the immediate family
· Domestic crisis at the time of the assessment
· A serious disturbance during the examination
· Accidental events during the examination
· International sporting commitments on the day of the assessment
· Approved access arrangements not in place
How to Apply
· Complete the Exam Special Consideration Form immediately after the exam or as soon as possible within 7 days of your exam taking place
· Ensure that you provide supporting evidence when you complete the application form such as medical certificate, doctor’s notes or official documentation for personal circumstances.
Important Notes
· Late applications may not be accepted – ensure that you have submitted your application in line with the deadlines available on this page
· Special Consideration cannot be granted for minor issues or lack of preparation
· Decisions are made by the awarding body, not the college
· The exams team can check if an application has been accepted, but they are not informed of any details on how special consideration has been implemented by awarding bodies
After receiving your exam results, you may wish to request a review or appeal. Awarding bodies offer Post-Results Services to ensure fairness and accuracy in marking.
Available Services
Depending on the awarding body and the qualification you are studying, you may request:
· Clerical Check – verifies all marks have been correctly added and recorded
· Review of Marking – a re-mark of your exam script to ensure marking was applied correctly
· Access to Scripts – obtain a copy of your exam paper for review
How to apply
1. Check deadlines
Applications must be submitted in line with the deadline set by the Exams team and within the awarding body’s published timeframe (usually within a few weeks of results day)
2. Complete the Post-Results Request Form
The application form is available here
3. Provide payment
Most services incur a fee set by the awarding body, and for Access to Scripts, the college charge a small administrative fee per subject. Payment must be made before the request is processed. You can pay for this at Reception or by calling 01727 737000.
Once the exams team have received the outcome of your request, you will be informed of this via email. This will be sent to your Oaklands College email address.
Important Notes:
· Requests must come from the candidate (or with their written consent)
· Outcomes may result in marks going up, down or staying the same
· Fees are non-refundable unless the awarding body changes the grade
· You may wish to consult with your class teacher before applying for any post-results services
If you require special arrangements or additional support during your exams, such as extra time or specific equipment, please contact our exams office well in advance of your exam date to ensure everything is in place.
