Oaklands College's Digital tutors stepped inside the future of technology during an inspiring visit to HP in London, gaining fresh industry insight to bring back into the classroom.
The visit gave members of the team the opportunity to explore current and emerging technologies, take part in hands-on demonstrations and hear directly from industry professionals about how technology continues to evolve and shape the modern workplace.
Throughout the day, the team were able to share ideas, ask questions and take part in conversations about the future of digital technology, education and the skills students will need as they progress into higher education and employment. The experience provided valuable insight into the pace of change within the digital sector and highlighted the importance of ensuring classroom learning remains closely connected to real-world industry developments.
Lynsey Elliott, ICT tutor at Oaklands College said: “The visit to HP was an inspiring opportunity to see how rapidly technology is developing and to reflect on how we prepare our students for the digital workplace. As educators, we are not only helping students understand the technologies available today; we are supporting them to become adaptable, curious and confident enough to work with the technologies of the future. Experiences like this help us bring industry insight back into the classroom and make learning more relevant and engaging for our students.”
The visit also offered an important opportunity for the tutors to reflect on the relationship between education and employment. By engaging directly with industry professionals, the team gained fresh ideas and inspiration that can be shared across the wider Digital department and embedded into teaching and learning.
For Oaklands College students, this continued connection with employers and technology leaders supports the development of practical digital skills, confidence and industry awareness. It helps ensure that learning is not only focused on achieving qualifications, but also on preparing them to become part of the next generation shaping the digital world.
