Basketball, Hockey and Netball squads to represent the college at major sporting event this weekend
Three of our academies will travel to Nottingham this weekend to compete in the prestigious AOC National Finals, having secured their places through a series of outstanding performances in their respective regional competitions.
The tournament, which runs from Friday to Sunday, brings together the top-performing college teams from across the country. It is widely regarded as the highlight of the FE sporting calendar, showcasing the best young talent in a range of disciplines.
Last year’s AOC Nationals proved a memorable occasion for the college, with the hockey academy crowned national champions after a series of exceptional performances. Their triumph was a testament to their skill, determination and team spirit, and remains a proud moment in the college’s sporting history. As well as our Netball squad, made a strong impression, securing a well-deserved third-place finish in a highly competitive competition. Those achievements have set a high standard, and this year’s teams will no doubt be aiming to build on that legacy in Nottingham.
Our Basketball team head into the finals on the back of a strong run of form, having progressed through the regional stages with confidence and control. Their disciplined approach and ability to adapt under pressure have been key to their success so far, and they’ll be aiming to carry that composure into what promises to be a highly competitive weekend.
The Hockey side have shown real grit throughout the season, combining tactical awareness with a tireless work ethic. A solid defensive record, coupled with clinical finishing in key moments, has seen them earn their place among the country’s top college teams.
Meanwhile, Netball have impressed with their cohesive style of play and sharp execution across the court. Consistent performances and a clear sense of unity have underpinned their campaign, and they’ll be looking to maintain that standard as they take on some of the best opposition in the country.
Head of Basketball, Michael Ball commented “It’s an outstanding achievement to represent the east region again, 2nd time we’ve reached the finals, and I know that the coaching staff and players are training hard to take the win. I’m sure that they will represent the college in the Oaklands way”
Staff and fellow students have shown strong support for the teams in the build-up to the event, with everyone at the college wishing them the very best for the weekend ahead.
Best of luck to all our teams – we’re behind you all the way!
