This is a 3.5 year Apprenticeship with attendance at college one day a week for the technical certificate. For the NVQ there will be site visits carried out by an assessor to collect evidence of competency in the workplace. This builds a Portfolio of evidence.
The course is centred around the City and Guilds 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology, which is comprised of both theory and practical components. The theory modules cover topics such as Health and Safety, Wiring Regulations, Electricity at Work Regulations, Installation Technologies, Electrical Science, Inspection and Testing and Fault Finding. The practical modules, most of which are assessed 'on site', cover topics such as safe site working, installation good practice and the working applications of Inspection and Testing and Fault Diagnosis. The theory side of an apprenticeship also requires the achieving of Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT, completing a recognised Employer Rights and Responsibilities qualification, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills qualification and an AM2 skills test
which is a three day practical exam with an on-line exam at an AM2 Test Centre in Luton.
