Three Oaklands Wolves Netball Students Selected for London Mavericks
Three talented netball students from Oaklands Wolves, based in Hertfordshire have been selected for the London Mavericks pathway, marking another exciting achievement for the Oaklands Wolves Netball Academy.
Emily Davis, Kimora Charles-McPherson and Mya Murphy have all progressed through the Oaklands Wolves Netball Academy at Oaklands College in St Albans and will now continue their development within the London Mavericks pathway.
Their selections are a reflection of the hard work they have shown in training and matches and recognise the progress they have made throughout their development in the sport.
Coach Shamica is delighted for the athletes and this exciting opportunity within their netball journeys.
Standing at 5ft 2in, Mya was told from a young age that, because of her height, she would never progress in the sport. Following her selection, she described feeling both shocked and excited and is now determined to continue proving her doubters wrong as part of the U17 EAP squad. Playing at Goal Attack/Wing Attack, Mya is ready to embrace the opportunity and continue developing her game at the next level.
Kimora is looking forward to the opportunity to further develop her game as a Wing Attack/Centre in a challenging environment. She said: "Learning to perform and train under pressure will allow me to further develop my on-court mentality, while also improving my technical and tactical skills." Also standing at 5ft 2in, she is excited to get started with the U19 PDP squad and continue elevating her overall play.
Emily sees the selection as a major milestone in her development as a player. The call-up is recognition of the hard work and commitment she has invested in the sport, and an opportunity to test herself alongside some of the region's top young players. Measuring 5ft 9in and operating at Goal Attack/Wing Attack, Emily is excited to continue developing her game and take on a new challenge through the U19 PDP squad alongside fellow Wolves teammate Kimora. Emily is also part of the England Netball Diploma in Sporting Excellence with London Mavericks, further highlighting her potential and dedication to the sport.
The girls' selections mark another significant achievement for the college's growing list of impressive alumni.
From everyone at Oaklands Wolves, congratulations Emily, Kimora and Mya. We're all behind you and can't wait to see what you achieve with the London Mavericks.
