About the course

New for 2026/27, this fun and immersive 2.5-hour pottery wheel taster offers the perfect introduction to the art of wheel throwing. With a maximum of just four students per session, you'll benefit from plenty of individual attention and support throughout the experience. Discover the magic of transforming a simple lump of clay into beautiful handmade pottery as you learn the fundamental techniques used by ceramic artists. Whether you're looking to try something new, unleash your creativity, or explore a potential new hobby, this hands-on workshop is ideal. Your experienced pottery tutor will begin by demonstrating each stage of the process, showing you how to centre the clay, open forms, and pull up walls to create cups and bowls. You will then have the opportunity to practise these techniques on your own wheel, with personalised guidance and encouragement throughout the session. Working in a friendly and supportive studio environment, you'll gain confidence as you develop your skills and create your own unique pottery pieces. At the end of the session you'll choose your three favourite creations to be glazed and kiln-fired, ready for collection approximately 3'5 weeks later. Leave with new skills, a sense of achievement, and beautiful handmade pottery to treasure.
