Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 '3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

Teaching staff

You�ll be taught and supported by experienced industry professionals with a minimum of five years� industry experience. Your teachers and assessors are also currently working in the industry, bringing up-to-date knowledge, skills and professional experience into the classroom. You�ll receive ongoing support with your learning, assessments and individual targets, helping you build the confidence and skills needed for the industry. Throughout your assessment journey, you�ll also be supported by an Internal Verifier, helping to ensure your work is assessed fairly and consistently.

Assessment

You will be assessed through practical observations, online exams and assignments. You are required to create a portfolio and complete creative research in a sketch book. Feedback will be provided to the students using industry standards.

About the course

The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Make Up Studies is designed to develop your practical skills, creativity and confidence in both makeup application and hairstyling. You will explore a range of professional techniques, from natural and glamorous makeup through to creative and fantasy looks. Alongside practical skills, you will develop your understanding of skin, anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and professional salon practices. The course is designed to prepare you for employment within the beauty and makeup industry, including opportunities such as makeup counters, bridal makeup and other entry-level makeup roles. The following units are mandatory and must be completed to achieve the full qualification - Follow Health and safety practice in the salon. - Apply makeup - Instruction on makeup application - The art of Photographic Makeup - Create an image based on a theme in the hair and beauty sector - The art of dressing hair - Apply skin tanning techniques. - Shaping and colouring eyebrows.

Career options

To apply for this course you need to put in an application online and attend an interview. You may want to support this interview by producing a sketch book or image showing your interest and experience in Makeup and Hair.

Our Hair and Beauty courses enable you to work in a wide variety of salons, nail bars, spas, cruise ships, or even work abroad in luxury resorts. Depending on the level you choose to study, we recommend that you carry on climbing the ladder within Oaklands, and then onto university or into employment.

You are required to purchase a Kit and uniform (approx. '300) that will provide you will all the equipment required to use in practical sessions and work experience You will be required to purchase additional research material such as a sketch book. We work with the following suppliers for your kit and uniform: Kryolan, Plouise, Nanshy, ISO clean and Funky Scrubs. You will need to show that you have developed your Maths and English skills whilst you are on the course. This may mean you sit GCSE qualifications.
