Saracens Women's Rugby

About Us

This academy is specifically designed for individuals aged 16 to 19, offering ambitious players an opportunity to participate in a full-time elite performance environment while pursuing their full-time education.

In partnership with Saracens, the programme provides a variety of educational options, including BTECs and A Levels, which run concurrently with the rugby programme, creating a comprehensive blend of performance training and academic study. Participants will receive support in their career progression as well as in their on-pitch performance, assisting them in achieving the highest level of success possible.

Programme Highlights

Saracens Women provides exceptional coaching and performance support, fostering a nurturing environment for athletes to thrive and develop their skills. Some of the programme highlights include:

  • Saracens Partnership: Access to top tier coaching training methodologies, and resources, allowing participants to benefit from the expertise and experience from the most successful club in women's rugby
  • High-Level Training Facilities: Participants train in state-of-the-art facilities specifically designed for rugby development, providing the ideal environment for skill enhancement, tactical training, and physical conditioning
  • Support Services: Comprehensive support services are available, including dedicated medical provision for injury prevention and recovery, strength and conditioning programmes tailored to individual needs, and performance analysis to track progress and enhance gameplay
  • The Academy also offers the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DISE), a qualification designed for learners to be assessed on their abilities as elite sports performers. This additional qualification, worth 64 UCAS points, is studied alongside a player's main course and is not standalone
  • Professional Pathways: Athletes are encouraged to aim for progression to elite levels of rugby, with guidance and support to navigate the transition to professional play, including opportunities with Saracens Women
  • Further Education: The programme offers various opportunities for higher education, with pathways to universities in the UK and abroad, ensuring that players can pursue academic goals alongside their rugby careers

Important Information

This section provides important information regarding residential accommodation, team details, and academic requirements to join the Saracens Women's Rugby Academy.

All players can apply to be part of the Full Time Academy Programme, however, we encourage players that have had a good rugby background and are in a County level Programme (PDG) or above. Please note, you must be offered a place to study at Oaklands College if you wish to be a part of the Academy.

For more information, please refer to the drop down sections.

Step 1: Attend an open day

We have two open days, Monday 27th October 2025 and Monday 16th February 2026.

Find out more

These open days serve as an opportunity for you to gain an understanding of the elite performance programme which we offer, based at Oaklands College. You will have opportunities to view and experience our state of the art facilities, including our brand new High Performance Centre, as well as be coached by and meet our performance staff who run the programme. Alongside exposure to the rugby programme, Oaklands College staff and residential team will be on site to discuss any academic or residential questions you may have.

Step 2: Apply to the College

To be considered for the rugby programme, you must have an offer to study on a course based at Oaklands College.

Find out more about enrolling

Step 3: Attend a Trial Date - Sunday 19th April & Saturday 2nd May 2026.

If you have decided to apply to the college, and in turn the rugby programme, the next step is a trial. This will be held at Oaklands College and will be served as a tool to assess players abilities and behaviours to see if they have the capabilities to join the Saracens Women Pathway Programme. All players will be made aware of their application outcome by the 13th June 2026.

Step 4: Meet and Greet at Stone X Stadium Saturday 6th June 2026

Following the trial process, we will invite all applicants to a meet and greet event, where you will be able to meet current and former players of the programme before watching Saracens Women in PWR action.

The academy competes at the highest levels of competition in the country, participating in the RFU ACE league and AOC Women’s Rugby Union Premiership League.

Additionally, 17 players are currently within the RFU PDG Pathway, and we have a rich history of players gaining International Honours. In the past 4 seasons, we have had 12 players gain International Honours for England, Ireland, Wales and Italy, of which 4 have progressed to U20s Level. Most recently 6 pathway players have been invited into an U23 Positional Day with England taking place in October.

To join the Saracens Women's Rugby Academy, you simply need to be enrolled on one of our full-time courses. Once you're part of the programme, you’ll train, compete, and develop alongside like-minded student-athletes.

Please note, young people with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or additional SEND and/or medical needs MUST be declared.  For those with an EHCP, the College is required to follow a statutory ‘Consultation’ process to ensure a student’s needs can be met within the College. We ask that students with any other additional needs that do not have an EHCP declare their needs so we can assess any provision required.  Students can make the appropriate declarations on their College application.  Failure to declare an EHCP or additional SEND/health needs can impact on the young person’s application to the College and access to the Academies.
