Overview

this course is delivered in 1 year through either day release (1 day a week) or two evenings a week. It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the electrotechnology sector.

Health and safety in building services engineering
Principles of electrical science
Electrical installations technology
Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering

Am I right for the course?

The Level 2 qualification is designed for new entrants to the industry, providing them with the basic skills and experience they need. This Level 2 Diploma will suit you if you want to learn the basics of electrotechnical principles and practice to help start off your career in the electrical sector.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

The level 2 is assessed through a range of methods both formal and informal. The qualification has 4 online exams, one 8-hour practical exam, One 2 hour practical exam and common task written assessment.

The electrical installation team at Oaklands College has come into Further Education from different parts of the electrical installation industry. Collectively, they have experience in domestic, commercial and industrial installation work, motors and control circuits, data cabling and software applications, installation inspection and testing, installation design and verification, electrical and electronic engineering.

What Next?

It allows candidates to progress into employment, although not as a fully qualified electrician, or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

• Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures)
• Level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnology
• Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations
• Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.

During any of our Electrical courses you will be expected to seek employment in the industry enabling you to gain invaluable hands-on experience.

Electrical can lead you onto many different career paths, including higher level courses to further develop your skills in your chosen subject(s).

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
