Access to HE

Access courses are nationally recognised qualifications designed to bridge the gap between your existing education and what you need to enter High Education.  Our Diplomas are awarded by Gateway Qualifications. If you are aged 19 or over our Access courses will provide you with the skills, confidence and knowledge you need to progress onto a degree level course.

Why study Access to HE at Oaklands College

Our Access to HE courses will prepare you for entry to university. Our courses emphasise the development of learning skills necessary for success in Higher Education such as skills in academic writing, research and the ability to work independently. We had a 93% achievement rate on Access to HE programmes in 2018-19, with the majority of students achieving a place at their first choice university.

Who is Access to HE for?

Before enrolling you should identify the university and course you wish to take. This may be career based for (e.g. nursing, midwifery etc.) or academic (e.g. a science, psychology, criminology etc.).  You should look at university prospectuses, in particular the admission requirements. You may find that you need to acquire GCSE or Functional Skills in maths and/or English. If you do not already hold these then we can help.

Once you have decided on a pathway and your progression then apply. We will invite you to come into college and talk with a member of the Access to HE teaching team.

Fees

Most students pay for this course through an Advanced Learner Loan https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan  If you complete your HE course you may not need to repay this. Other options are available.

In some cases you may not have to pay fees, for example if you have not completed a previous Level 3 course. Please contact us to discuss.
