This is what Skills Bootcamps do for those who take part. For employers they mean recruiting or developing staff with the right skills at the right time, at low cost or zero cost.

Why join our Skills Bootcamps at Oaklands College?

Skills Bootcamps are an exciting new funded initiative for Hertfordshire, designed to provide short flexible employment sector-specific training, supporting businesses with their skills gaps.

Working in partnership with the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Oaklands College is excited to offer the bootcamps as part of the Government's Lifetime Skills Guarantee. Helping adults to retrain, whatever their starting point. 

Candidates gain the valuable knowledge and skills required for the business to develop, while being supported with career changes or progression in the workplace. 

People aged 19+ can access these courses. They are delivered by highly skilled and experienced trainers who will support them to progress in the workplace and utilise the new skills they have developed. Specialising in a selection of sectors, Oaklands College will prepare each individual for work or expand opportunities through careers information, advice and guidance.

Unemployed people will have a guaranteed interview with the employer on completion of the training.

Who is this for?

  • Anyone aged 19+ as of 31/8/23
  • Unemployed, Employed and Self Employed
  • Live in Hertfordshire or in proximity of
  • Good level of English & Maths
  • Right to work - passport for evidence
  • Looking to gain employment/contracts in the sector

What does it look like?

  • Maximum duration of 16 weeks
  • Face to face, online or blended delivery
  • Can be 1 day a week up to 5 days a week

What does it cost?

The cost is funded by the Department of Education therefore there is no cost to the learner. There might be a small contribution required from the employer, please ask for more details.

Courses Available

Mental Health Peer Supporter

This course will equip learners with the knowledge and skills to support others with their mental health personally and in the workplace including topics such as understanding the factors that may affect individuals, diagnosis, peer supporter skills, and preparing to work in mental health. Individuals looking to enter this sector or upskill in their current roles will benefit from this course.

Dates: 06/03/24 - 28/03/24

Days: Every Wednesday and Thursday

Times: 10am - 3pm

Location: Oaklands College, St Albans Campus

Mental Health in Children & Young People

This course will equip learners with the knowledge and skills to support children and young people within their mental health personally and in the workplace including topics such as safeguarding, identifying concerns or risk factors, impact of concerns and support children with emotional wellbeing. Individuals looking to enter this sector or upskill in their current roles will benefit from this course.

Dates: 12/03/24 - 09/05/24

Days: Every Tuesday and Thursday

Times: 4pm - 6:30pm

Location: Remote sessions

Cyber Security

This course will equip learners with the knowledge and skills in understanding cyber security and online threats including types of attacks, measures, cryptography, improving information security, managing vulnerabilities, and internal/external threats to information security. Individuals looking to take on additional responsibilities' as part of their role to become a key point of contact within the business will benefit from the course.

Dates: 12/03/24 - 09/05/24

Days: Every Tuesday and Thursday

Times: 6pm - 9pm

Location: Remote sessions

Software Development

This course will equip learners with the knowledge and skills in understanding software development to include introductions to web development, AI, styling webpages, JavaScript, Front end frameworks and back end development. Individuals looking to enter into this sector or take on additional responsibilities as part of their role will benefit from the course.

Dates: 12/03/24 - 04/04/24

Days: Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Times: 10am - 2pm

Location: Remote sessions

Skilled Rail Track Operative (Overground)

This course will equip learners with the knowledge and skills in understanding the role of a Skilled Track Operative working on the overground lines. The course includes manual handling, track induction, Emergency First Aid, Powered Plant & small tools, and Personal Track Safety. This course is ideal for anyone looking to start a career in rail, and will gain hands on practical experience and appropriate PPE ready for employment.

Every learner will have a guaranteed interview on successful completion of the course.

Please Note: Learners will need to be able to travel to Canning Town, London where the majority of the training will be held. Learners will also need to pass a Medical & Drugs and Alcohol screening.

Dates: 04/03/24 - 29/03/24

Days: Every Monday - Friday

Times: 9am - 4pm

Location: Oaklands College & Canning Town, London

 

Skilled Platelayer (London Underground)

This course will equip learners with the knowledge and skills in understanding the role of a Skilled Platelayer working on the London underground lines. The course includes manual handling, track trolley, First Aid at Work, DCCR, Worksite safety induction, Firewatch and Personal Track Safety. This course is ideal for anyone looking to start a career in rail, and will gain hands on practical experience and appropriate PPE ready for employment.

Every learner will have a guaranteed interview on successful completion of the course.

Please Note: Learners will need to be able to travel to Canning Town, London where the majority of the training will be held. Learners will also need to pass a Medical & Drugs and Alcohol screening.

Dates: 04/03/24 - 22/03/24

Days: Every Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm
