VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management – Media Make-up Pathway

Overview

The VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management is a vocationally related qualification that will prepare you to gain employment as a manager in the hair, make-up and beauty sector, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. Entry on to this qualification can be via previous attainment of a level 3 Diploma in Theatrical Special Effects Hair and Make-up.

The mandatory units in this qualification include:

Management of health, safety and security in the salon
Quality management of client care in the hair and beauty sector
Sales management in the hair and beauty sector
Public relations in the hair and beauty sector
Salon management
Prosthetic make-up
Manage the creation of a hair style collection
As well as theory based lessons you will also participate in practical learning where you will develop your make-up and hair skills by being hands on designing and producing characters ready for professional photo shoots. You will be creating a collection of hairstyles to suit the characters you design.

Transform your 2D special effects skills into 3D prosthetic skills. Learn how to make seamless prosthetic pieces at ease and enhance your skills making your traumas camera ready. During your training you will learn the art form of moulding and sculpting, how to make casualty effects from flat moulds to be able to produce small prosthetic pieces. Once you have mastered this step the options are endless as to what affects you wish to mould. You will discover how to achieve extra detail through colouring and adding texture for the finishing touches.

You will discover how to use life casting materials to learn the process of a half head life cast. After this you will use your life cast to sculpt small prosthetic pieces. The next stages of your training will be how to apply, paint and remove a prosthetic piece safe and effectively to industry standards.

You will also learn how to make and apply bald caps as well as learning the art form of customized mask making, learn to create and bring to life a character and transform latex into a three dimensional piece

Am I right for the course?

The course develops students skills for a career path in Retail, TV, Film, Theatre and Fashion make-up professions. These creative industries are highly competitive, and are most suitable for individuals that are very passionate about make-up artistry and want to develop and mature into professional make-up artistsÂ’. The course requires students to attend every lesson and a 100% commitment to developing and practising your make-up skills, knowledge and understanding through critical research, consistent independent technical practice. Students are required to complete assignments alongside their salon management theory lessons.
This course runs over 2 days as contact time in class and students are expected to undertake additional study outside of lessons.

Entry requirements All students must have English and Maths in a minimum Grade 4 and full Level 3 in vocational area.

Assessment is evidenced in a portfolio of work. Assessments include examination, observation, written assignments and oral questioning. You will be required to bring in models in the make-up studio.

All courses in this area will have a mandatory kit and uniform. This is to be ordered at August enrolment.

The college is currently working with employers to support students to access essential work experience opportunities. This includes virtual speakers, employers giving talks on site or placements with employers. Additional off-site trips will be available and linked to course units. Additional costs may occur.

Additional professional development alongside the could include product and nano hair treatments.

Your course lecturers are professional working make-up artists, Hairdressers and Beauty Therapists and are trained teachers and assessors with many years of experience in the industry and in teaching. The course lessons are active, creative and intensive and designed to inspire and develop all the students towards creating great and interesting work for their final assessments.

Fees

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

For all two year courses fees shown above are per year.

Aged 19+ and planning to take a level 3 or above a different fee may apply. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan.

All HE courses (full and part time) are subject to tuition fees.
