Full time ESOL 16-18 Programme

course

Overview

If you need to improve your English language before you move to academic or vocational courses, you can join our full-time (17 hours) programme for young people from all over the world.

We offer English language classes at all levels from Entry 1 (beginner) up to Level 1 (higher intermediate). You can gain qualifications in English Language (ESOL Skills for Life), Functional Skills Mathematics and Computing, and Employability Skills, together with advice on planning your next steps.

Am I right for the course?

You need to be between 16 and 18 and your first language is not English.

You need to meet the immigration requirements to study on a funded programme. You may be a child of an EU resident or an asylum seeker under the care of a local authority. Overseas students may be accepted – please enquire about fees.

Your level of English will be assessed before you start.

In exceptional cases Year 11 students (aged 15-16) may be accepted. A risk assessment will be carried out to assess suitability.

Students will take recognised exams in Speaking and Listening, Reading, and Writing, from Entry 1 to Level 1 as appropriate.

Students also take assessments in Functional Skills Maths and ICT, from Entry1 to Level 1 as appropriate.

The students complete a portfolio leading to the Award in Employability, Entry 2 to Level 1 as appropriate.

Students attend practical classes in Catering, Motor Vehicle, Photography and Art and Design.

What Next?

You may progress to higher levels in the full time ESOL programme or join a part time adult ESOL class. Students who achieve qualifications at Level 1 may apply to join GCSE classes.

Many students progress onto vocational programmes such as Business, ICT, Construction, Health and Social Care.
