Meet Beck, a Greek student from Welwyn Garden City who joined his local Oaklands College in 2015, progressing through to achieving a Foundation Degree in Media Production.

Beck, who had a keen interest in Media Studies, decided to pursue the course at Oaklands College.

Tell us about your time at Oaklands? What led you to study here and what did you enjoy about your time at college?

“I really enjoyed my time at Oaklands, I wanted to come to the college because I knew it had fantastic teachers and had heard a lot about Mark Garvey from previous students, the teaching team here were brilliant and made the course even more enjoyable.

I had previously studied the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Creative Media and it was my experience on that course with the teaching staff that made me want to pursue the Foundation Degree.”

What would you say was the major highlight of your time at Oaklands?

“Last year our group went to Iceland, we were able to identify locations and sets that we wanted to film segments of our horror short-film. As well as the trips, the knowledge and unique teaching styles of the Media tutors was my major highlight, they develop a relationship with each of their students and work on your individual strengths and weaknesses.”

Would you recommend the Media courses at Oaklands?

“Absolutely, I recommend studying Media to anyone who is interested in a career within the industry, to equipment and specialised Media Studio at the Welwyn Garden City campus enables students to learn and develop the skills necessary to our studies and future employment, students are given free reign to be as creative as possible, with the support and guidance of our tutors.
