£62 million campus redevelopment gets the green light

Here’s a glimpse of what Oaklands College will look like in the future, as plans for a multi-million pound redevelopment of St Albans Campus have been given the go ahead.

The look and feel of Oakland College’s St Albans Campus will be entirely transformed with plans to introduce brand new student accommodation, administration areas, teaching centres, workshops and a sports pavilion. Excitingly, this money will give a unique opportunity to make fundamental changes to the appearance, layout and quality of the campus facilities.

The focal point of the new development will be the specially-purposed Gateway Building, which will house a news student lounge, support services and refectory. The new sports pavilion will provide lockers, changing rooms, and a viewing platform for spectators as well as classrooms for theoretical lessons.

The enhancement programme rolls out over five years to minimise disruption to the campus and current students. 

Principal Zoe Hancock said she was delighted the scheme had received the go-ahead. She said: “It will help us achieve our vision of improving the facilities for our college. Our students and staff continue to contribute so much to the local community and by offering exceptional and highly sustainable learning facilities we will create an asset the community can truly be proud of.”
