ST ALBANS — Oaklands College are thrilled to announce its on-site Nursery provision has been crowned ‘Best Nursery’ at the 2018 Herts School Awards.

Acorns Nursery, based at the college’s St Albans Campus on Hatfield Road currently cares for 50 children aged between three months and five years. The nursery is open to private families as well as college students and employees and achieved a grade of “Outstanding” from Ofsted in 2017.

The team fought off competition from three finalists in their chosen category – Busy Bees, Skyswood and Mount Carmel Kindergarten. Nominated by parents, an independent judging panel assessed each against criteria such as celebrating uniqueness of children, relationships with parents and carers, multi-sensory and imaginative learning and providing a safe and secure setting to encourage children to flourish.

Guests were treated to a drinks reception and canapés before the awards presentation which was hosted by Dr Kathy Weston from Radio Verulam’s’ Parents Show. As the nursery’s debut into the awards this year, the team were thrilled with the opportunity to take home the winning trophy.

Acorns Nursery Manager Wendy Taylor said: “We are delighted to win this award and to have the recognition from our parents and the local community. Relationships with families and the combined nurturing of the children underpins everything we do at Acorns. We know supporting parents to deliver a high quality early experience lies the best foundation for future success.”

“This award recognises the hard work and high standards every member of our team aspires to in delivering high quality education and care every single day. To know the nomination came from parents in the Nursery means so much.”

College Principal Zoe Hancock said: “The Herts School Awards honour and celebrate rising stars, amazing teachers and inspirational pupils in our schools across the district. We are very proud to see Acorns recognised for its quality of provision against the high standard within the local education community.”
