The College’s Agriculture department are celebrating after winning an impressive collection of prizes at recent county shows.

At the Hertfordshire County Show, the College’s Suffolk ram lamb, shown by student Shannon Allen, was awarded first prize, and was also awarded Reserve Champion in the shortwool sheep category and Best Suffolk in Show.

The College’s rare breed Teeswater sheep, recognisable by its long woolly fleece, was shown by student Shane Auckland and came third out of 18.

At the Suffolk Show, the College’s 136kg Teeswater ram named Trevor won first prize and was also awarded Reserve Champion in the male longwool sheep category, and was shown by student Andrew Parsonage.

A shearling Teeswater ewe, shown by Jessie Andrews, came first in her category, and was also awarded Champion Female in the longwool section and Reserve Breed Champion.

Oaklands’ farm manager Del Knowles said: “We’re really proud of all the students who worked so hard at making sure the sheep looked their best, and showing them off in the ring. It’s a fantastic experience for them and it’s great that all their hard work has paid off.”
