Dragons’ Apprentices raise over £1600 for local charity

Oaklands College Dragons’ Apprentices have raised a record breaking £1611.87 for Pro-Action Hertfordshire through their entrepreneurship and hard work. 

A team of four Oaklands Business students, Daniella Hodges, Sam Parkes, Christopher Douglas and Team Leader Chloe Williams have taken part in the Dragons’ Apprentices project where teams from local schools and colleges were given just £100 and told to go out and make as much money as possible for their charity of choice.

The College’s students put on various fund raising activities, including a marketing stall in Welwyn Garden City selling homemade candle cover and selling raffle tickets for Pro-Active’s first Charity Awards Evening with the St Albans Mayor and Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.

Team Leader and Business student, Chloe Williams, commented: “The biggest development was communicating internally within Oaklands about the work of Pro-Action and the synergy between the organisations. This has resulted in Oaklands referring students in need of support and other students who want to obtain qualifications in leadership/confidence building, to Pro-Action.”

Diane Currie, Business Lecturer at Oaklands College, commented: “The entire experience has been so beneficial for the students, the College and the charity.

“The students have worked so hard and deserve the highest praise for their perseverance, teamwork and enthusiasm.”

Chief Executive Officer of Pro-Action, Dave Green, commented: “Thanks to all of you that contributed to this; without which I know it would have not been anywhere near the success it was.

“A brilliant result of over £1600, so I hope that puts the team in the top four.”
