On Tuesday the 20th June 2023, Oaklands College was visited by Fujitsu for the first of their Hackathon project days.

Fujitsu set the ICT level 3 students the task of using their programming and coding skills to design and build a calculator and then present their work to the panel.

The students involved had a really fun and informative day learning about different concepts of coding and programming and using these skills to build different types of calculator.

The excellent work of the students was further rewarded by Fujitsu who gave away various prizes to the teams.

Iulia Gibson-Sutru from Fujitsu said “The challenge to code a calculator was met with determination by the students. This event not only fostered a deep understanding of programming but also a sense of teamwork and presentation skills. All the students engaged and we could see how keen they were to learn and saw their passion for technology.

Thank you to everybody involved from Oaklands College, the teachers, leadership team and the students. Everybody made sure the hackathon ran as smoothly as possible.”

Fujitsu really enjoyed their day with the students and are in the process of planning more events and employability days with Oaklands College in the near future.
