Interactive Media students bring safety messages to life for Hertfordshire’s ‘Crucial Crew’

 A team of students from Oaklands College have created animated safety videos to help educate local primary school children in what to do in an emergency. 

The team of Level 3 Interactive Media students produced short animated films for the county’s interactive children’s safety centre Crucial Crew, who welcomes thousands of Year 6 children across the county to take part in education activities and sessions across the county. 

The students were briefed with a scenario to animate in pairs, including designing characters, a production schedule and storyboard. The Crucial Crew team will select the best to be used in their live demonstrations with children.

Working to the brief of a flash flood scenario, the winning duo was students Rachel Earl and Lucy Green, both praised for adhering to the brief and clear communication and delivery of key messages to the intended young audience. 

The videos were created for a course unit in Image Manipulation using Computer Applications, to give students experience of using digital techniques and processes. As well as developing digital creation skills, the project also gave valuable experience in working with a client to represent their values and identity.
