Oaklands College supports employers with new Skillmakers scheme

Oaklands College is backing the launch of a brand new service which gives local employers the information and resources they need to grow their businesses through skills and corporate social responsibility.

Skillmakers is a free to use service which gives local businesses looking to train staff or take on new employees everything they need in one place to . In creating the scheme, Oaklands College  partnered with Watford Borough Council;, West Herts College and Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

The service has been developed in partnership with local employers who wanted a simpler, easier way to get quick advice on training and recruitment, including apprenticeships.

The launch of the scheme in early December drew a 90-strong business audience. At the event, Skilllmakers Programme Director Richard Moore said: “Getting informed advice on skills is notoriously difficult. With Skillmakers, local businesses now have a single source of professional advice, both online and via a team of dedicated training specialists.

“Our focus is local, with the centre of attention being the specific needs of smaller businesses, many of whom tell us they struggle to find people with the skills they need right now,” said Richard.

“The information available online is bite-sized, offering quick routes to ideas and answers. This is backed up by a team of advisers who can provide additional support. For those interested there is also direct access to locally-based training solutions, whether the need is a one-off short course or a full apprenticeship.”
