LONDON — Hatfield dancers James Ashton and his dance partner Oliver have reached the live-finals of BBC’s latest talent show The Greatest Dancer.

The final, which will be staged on Saturday 23 February, will see Oaklands College student James and his partner compete with three other finalists for the inaugural crown of The Greatest Dancer, £50,000 and the chance to perform on Strictly Come Dancing.

The FK Dance Academy stars, who were set the challenge of performing to a ‘space’ theme, dazzled judges and viewers alike as they shot their way to the finals back by music from British electronica band ‘Faithless’.

James and Oliver are the final act remaining to represent dance captain and former Glee star Matthew Morrison.

Speaking of his experience on The Greatest Dancer, James said: “I am really loving the show, it is making me not only grow as a person but is helping me to grow as a dancer as well.

When the doors opened in the auditions I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t even know my teacher (Kerry Newell) had put us up for the audition, but I’m so glad she did as its been one of the best experiences of my life.”

James, who has been dancing from the age of 6, rehearsed his initial audition routine for two years with dance partner Oliver and has been an inspiration for many students and dancers across the local counties.

James said: “My advice would be if you love doing something then keep at it, this doesn’t just apply for dance it applies for whatever you enjoy doing, keep doing what you love and eventually the opportunities will come!”

Tune into BBC Once for the live finals of The Greatest Dancer this Saturday, 23 February, at 7:10pm to cheer on and cast your votes for James and Oliver!
