Art students seeking climate change action were inspired by a project set by major fashion retailer ASOS this week.

The Conference of Parties (COP26) event is an annual United Nations (UN) conference, the summit of which is attended by the countries that signed the United Nationals Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1994.

The conference, which experts have claimed is “one of the very last chances” to avert a climate disaster, concludes today in Glasgow.

Level 2 Art and Design students at Oaklands, who have been inspired by the protests and campaigns by climate activists, were pleased to hear of a collaborative project with leading fashion and cosmetic retailer ASOS.

ASOS, who asked students to design a variety of mood boards, inspired by the themes raised by the COP26 event, set students the task of producing a variety of sculpture designs which best reflect how global organisations can reform to avoid impacting the climate.

As part of the project, ASOS will commission the creation of the winning sculpture design, providing students with a fantastic opportunity to see the winning design from their mood boards brought to life, enhancing their own professional portfolios.

Student’s said: “Nature is often overlooked and not appreciated as much as it needs to be. There is so much beauty and life in nature and we need to protect it.

Using recycled materials allows us to prevent things going to wasteland or in the ocean, which further causes pollution, contributes to global warming and killing nature and its habitants.”
