Over 300 attend inaugural Job Fair

Over 300 people attended the inaugural Job Fair at the Welwyn Garden City Campus on 11 July. On the day over 30 employers were available to discuss over 250 vacancies and attracted those of the public seeking work and general employment advice.

Those that attended were provided with information directly from employers on current vacancies including full and part-time, work placement and volunteering opportunities from employers ranging from Tesco, the Army, Ocado, Herts County and other organisations such as Job Centre Plus, Archant and Monster. 

The College also provided information on current apprenticeship vacancies that are available with local employers, advice from the guidance team, as well as information on current vacancies for employment directly within the College.

James Robertson, who has been unemployed for over 2 years, commented: “The day was so well organised and I found it very helpful to have so many employers and career advisors under one roof. In one day I gained knowledge on different career prospects, useful websites and an interview.”

Amelia Johns, who has recently finished studying for a degree at university and is waiting on her results said: “The jobs on offer were of a very good standard and I handed in three application forms.”

CV writing and general employability advice company, Monster, commented: “We would just like to say a big thank you to Oaklands for yesterday’s excellent Job Fair.

“The Monster team put across their full knowledge of the One Stop Shop site to Job seekers and employers and gained some positive feedback about the site, which is excellent.”
