Saracens team go back to basics with Multi-Skills course

As part of their personal development, the team is spending some of their time away from the pitch learning practical skills such as plastering, tiling, plumbing, bricklaying, carpentry, joinery, painting, decorating and electrical installation.

Edward Griffiths, Saracens CEO commented: ‘The Player Development Programme that we run at Saracens is second to none and we encourage the squad to develop their skills away from the pitch. Our ongoing partnership with Oaklands College allows the players to do just this and opens up a number of new opportunities for them to explore outside of rugby.’

In their first session last week, half of the group starting with the basics of wiring a plug while the other half learnt how to mend a small hole in plaster board.

David Pullin, Head Of Skills – Engineering & Construction said: “Over the next 10 weeks the Saracens first team will have the opportunity to get some hands-on experience of various DIY skills which they can then use as a stepping-stone to gaining a full qualification in their chosen area.“It may not be facing tough rugby opponents, but we hope the course will challenge the team in a different way!”
