WELWYN GARDEN CITY — Students from the creative departments at Oaklands College stepped up to wow the crowds at the annual Christmas Light Switch On in Welwyn Garden City this week.

Performing Arts and Music students took to the stage at the town’s bustling Christmas Light event, securing some of the slots given to community groups and entertainers to warm the crowd before the big countdown.

Performing Arts students kicked off the evenings proceedings with a solo performance followed by a choir session, belting out some of our most loved Christmas classics.
‘Fairytale of New York’ was led by HND Performing Arts student Ben Giles with other lead performances by Michael Walker, also HND Performing Arts and Shaun Foley, studying a 90 credit diploma in Performing Arts.

A trio of Level 3 Music Performance students including Sabrina Hammer (singer) Ellie Whitaker (guitar) and Will Francis (cajon) later followed to deliver an acoustic session on stage. The event is one of the first points in the academic year where students get to perform in front of a live crowd – a great experience for any young budding performer.

Special thanks to the team from event organisers WGC Bid for giving the students a fantastic opportunity to shine.
