Oaklands College has a wide range of land based courses available and outstanding facilities to go with them. Our St Albans Campus offers a beautiful semi-rural location and this the site from which for our land based industries are situated.

Animal Care & Management at Oaklands College

With such a vast area, we are able to run our own farm - which is home to many livestock, a fully functioning equine livery and a habitat centre which is our own animal care unit, housing a wide range of species and exotic animals.

If you are interested in working with animals, we offer a range of courses for all abilities which can prepare you for employment or university.

The Habitat Centre

The Habitat Centre houses over 200 animals and this is where our students gain practical experience in handling and husbandry.  Current  residents include marmosets, rabbits, aquatics, birds and reptiles. Learn more about the Habitat Centre below.

    SPECIALIST SPECIES - We hold a zoo license which enables us to keep specialist species such as meerkats and lemurs.

    WORK EXPERIENCE - Work experience is available at local animal centres, such as ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

    HANDS ON EXPERIENCE – Our working farm and Habitat Centre provides students with real hands-on experience with lots of different animals.

Oaklands Farm

Our working farm provides you with real hands-on experience of sheep, cattle, goats and pigs. Each year students take part in lambing on our working farm, working in shifts to make sure lambs and ewes are healthy and happy.
