A business entrepreneurial team from Oaklands College’s Welwyn Garden City Campus took a trip to Canary Wharf to step up to be grilled apprentice-style by ‘super dragons’ on their business plans and fundraising.

‘Team Oakey’, represent the College in Dragons Apprentice, a scheme which invites local schools and college in the area to create a team to use entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen to raise money for their chosen charity.

The ‘Judgement Day’ session saw Team Oakey and their counterparts in other schools and colleges face the Dragons to report on the last five months activity and fundraising, explain what they had done and the tools and contacts they had generated to make their ideas into money-spinners.

The day’s agenda involved a Team Challenge, where they had to prepare and give a 60-second ‘sales pitch’ against other schools. Team Oakey took the crown for this, scoring an additional £500 for their charity pot on the day.

The Level 3 students all study business at Welwyn Garden City Campus and have been involved in the scheme since the beginning of the year. Team Oakley consists of Courtney Ganileo, Zain Khan, Emma Lowe and Jack Gooden.

Their grand total for the year’s fundraising is £2957.81 – which will be presented to their chosen charity Isabel Hospice.
