Two years to the day, as part of the Remembrance Day commemorations, Oaklands College opened its on-site Stables Restaurant for a special three-course meal for local veterans.

Hospitality and Catering students produced a three-course meal for 22 special guests, including local World War I veterans and current servicemen and women.

The commemoratory event was held as part of the ‘St Albans Remembers’ initiative, which was running throughout the city and in-line with the colleges #ThereButNotThere campaign.

The event saw the Stables Restaurant transform into a breath-taking homage to the past, with Photography students’ tributary images and memoirs from World War I on display throughout the restaurant.

The Veterans Day lunch offered Oaklands College students studying a range of courses from Hospitality & Catering to Photography, the opportunity to be a part of the event and gain valuable experience towards their studies, whilst paying their respects to the fallen.

Head Chef Martin West, who led the catering service said; “As a college we take pleasure in supporting the local community. The event went incredibly well and the students who were on-hand were a glowing tribute to the college.”
