Exchange students treat diners to French fare

Budding chefs from France had the chance to sample English cuisine when they visited Oaklands this week.

Catering students from the Faculté des Métiers de l’Essonne met with students and staff from the College’s Hospitality & Catering department and took a tour of The Stables, the College’s own restaurant where students can practise their culinary skills.

Once the group had familiarised themselves with the kitchen, they treated lunchtime diners to a traditional French menu, with continental treats including classic French cheeses, oysters, smoked salmon, venison and Baked Alaska.

During their stay in St Albans, the French visitors also had the chance to visit top restaurants in the town, including THOMPSON@Darcy’s, Brasserie Blanc and St Michael’s Manor.

Caroline Cooper, Head of Hospitality & Catering at Oaklands, said: “It was a pleasure to once again welcome students from France to Oaklands. It’s a great opportunity for both them and our own students to sample food from different cultures and maybe pick up a few new cookery tips.”
