Oaklands College students excel on A Level Results Day 2019

ST ALBANS — A Level Students of Oaklands College’s Welwyn Garden City and St Albans campuses arrived early at our St Albans Campus this morning to collect their hard-earned A Level results.

The college has had another strong set of A Level results with some positive high grade achievement, with a vast majority securing their Higher Education places at Universities up and down the country.

Setting the benchmark this year was Finola Scott, an A Level student who studied Sociology, Photography and Media Studies, achieving an A* and two As as a result.

Finola’s hard work and determination during her two years of study at Oaklands College were rewarded with an Unconditional offer to study Criminology and Sociology at the University of Lancaster.

Finola said: “I’m really proud and happy with my grades, Oaklands College has been so much less restrictive than Sixth Form and has given me the freedom to fulfil my potential, the lovely, experienced teachers have helped me so much!”

There was further success for Welwyn’s Ellen Davoudi-Meredith, whose triple-Bs in Politics, History and Law were rewarded with an Unconditional offer from the University of Sussex to study Law.

Ellen said: “I’m happy with my grades, I was aiming for three A’s but the receive three B’s still means that I can go to University to study law. I enjoyed my time at Oaklands, particularly writing my EPQ project, where I researched into the extent to which the United Kingdom is compatible with the European Union.

Ellen added: “I’ve enjoyed being treated like a peer, rather than at student at Oaklands, our student-led discussions and debates have set me up well for what to experience at University.”

History and Government and Politics student Fraser Page returned to Oaklands College for the second time to increase his A Levels, ready to attend Southampton University.

Fraser achieved an impressive C in History and a B in Government and Politics, resulting in an Unconditional offer from Southampton University to study History.

Fraser, who previously attended Southampton University to study Chemistry, decided that the course was not for him and came back to Oaklands to rediscover his passion for History and Politics.

Welwyn Garden City’s Zoe Weir studied an intensive one-year-course at Oaklands, securing a Grade B in Photography and excelled in her EPQ research project, writing about the “Ethics of Prosthetics”, her project achieved an A* and contributed towards her Unconditional offer from the University of Surrey to study Sports Science.
