Oaklands welcomes Italian exchange students

The College welcomed students from a prestigious Italian music academy to the Welwyn Garden City Campus.

SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO, Italy — This week saw Oaklands welcome students from a prestigious music academy to the Music & Performing Arts Department at the Welwyn Garden City Campus.

The students from the Istituto Musicale “Antonio Vivaldi” in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, visited the college as part of an exchange programme which saw them experience classes in drama, singing, dance, music and media, along with a trip to London to watch Les Miserables at The Queen’s Theatre.

They also visited the St Albans Campus and enjoyed a tour of the facilities and lunch at the student run restaurant The Stables.

During their visit, the Italian visitors stayed with Oaklands students and their families, which was a great chance for them to sample authentic English family life.

The Istituto will return the favour when Oaklands students travel to Italy next year to spend time with students and tutors at the academy.

Oaklands Performing Arts tutor David Wilson said: “This is the start of a wonderful relationship with our friends in Italy, which gives students from both organisations the chance to sample a different culture and broaden their horizons.”
